Forthcoming in October from NYU Press, Enchanted New York explores the mysterious magical past of Manhattan. In this literary treasure hunt, you will need to solve a series of riddles to find each destination, where you will be given the next clue. Winners will get an autographed copy of the book – and other prizes!

On July 9, 1776, a group of American patriots who had just heard the newly created Declaration of Independence read near the Liberty Pole on the Common rushed down Broadway and toppled the equestrian statue of King George III, and parts of the statue and surrounding cast iron fence were subsequently melted down to become musket balls fired against British soldiers during the Revolutionary War.
