This curated audio collection explores the stories, memories and reactions that local residents and users of Bensham, Gateshead, associate with local places past, present and future. Excerpts are taken from the participatory research project, Bensham Memories, which sought to understand Bensham through drawing 'maps' and undertaking geo-located walks in the local area. 

The collection is highly subjective and representative of those who participated. The data may not be historically correct due to the influence of memory and nostalgia, but allows users to weave narratives of local identity from current perceptions and understandings.

Jeg kan huske ® Støvring er en musikalsk genfortælling af Støvrings historie, skabt af elever fra Støvring Gymanasium i samarbejde med komponist Hans Sydow. Eleverne har valgt en række locations i Støvring, som de har en særlig relation til og kan fortælle deres egen historie om. Teksterne er korte hverdagserindringer, der alle starter med ordene »Jeg kan huske ...«. Med en mobiltelefon og et sæt hovedtelefoner kan man gå på opdagelse i parken omkring Støvring Gymnasium og høre et lydlanskab af 24 korte historier om og lyde fra byen, et landskab der folder sig ud mens man går.

The wandering in a particular place leads you to discover something new: the cities are endless and constantly changing, there may be as impersonal, which is why we often fail to ask the right attention on where we are.
Aurora Sonora is an invitation to reflect on the perception of sound (and music) in the urban context, looking for a new outlook on the district, the different modes of living a certain place, focusing on listening.
Aurora Sonora is developed through a soundwalk  in certain streets and certain places of Aurora in Turin, thanks to geolocated site-specific sound compositions and the app, Echoes.
The research work carried out on the territory of three sound artists (George Alloatti, Alessandro Peiretti – Yellows and Fabio Battistetti – Eniac) in defining the places of intervention, allows you to discover streets, squares, never traveled before, or to live in a different light places already known.

Il peregrinare in un determinato luogo porta a scoprire qualcosa di nuovo: le città sono sconfinate ed in continua mutazione e possono presentarsi come impersonali. Per questo motivo spesso non si riesce a porre la giusta attenzione sul dove siamo. Il lavoro di ricerca realizzato sul territorio da tre artisti sonori torinesi - Giorgio Alloatti, Fabio Battistetti ed Alessandro Peiretti  - nel definire i luoghi di intervento sonoro, ha permesso di scoprire vie, piazze, che non avevamo mai attraversato o di vivere sotto un’altra luce luoghi già conosciuti. Questo tipo di esperienza è stato possibile grazie all’attenzione all’ascolto che ha aumentato la capacità percettiva.

Aurora Sonora si sviluppa attraverso un percorso di passeggiata sonora per alcune vie e determinati luoghi di Aurora a Torino, grazie alle composizioni site specific geolocalizzate. I partecipanti della passeggiata hanno la possibilità, grazie al supporto di uno smartphone, di immergersi nel contesto urbano con un approccio di ibridazione tra l’esistente e l’aumentato. La realtà oggettiva delle vie nel racconto sonoro.

Aurora Sonora è un invito ad una riflessione sulla percezione del suono, all’ascolto del contesto urbano ed alla ricerca di un nuovo sguardo sulla città.

Follow the footsteps of stars of a bygone age to discover the hidden past of the Hollywood of West Sussex. Wander through "Bungalow Town" and picture the hustle and bustle that was once the place to live if you were an up and coming actor or actress in the early days of film.  From 1914 to 1923 it became a hive of activity after one of the earliest film studios was started at the Old Fort before a new studio complex was built at the Church of the Good Shepherd where famous films such as Little Dorrit and The Mayor of Casterbridge were filmed.

Your nostalgic journey through Hollywood ends at Marlipins – time to look at the facts and grab some refreshments!

Take yourself on a journey through Worthing’s rich cinematic history and discover locations and film facts you never knew.

Starting at the Connaught Theatre –the Mecca of Worthing’s entertainment history, you’ll meander through 7 locations spotting venues past and present, some still standing and some no longer there, along with iconic landmarks and locations where famous films have been shot, before your tour ends where it all started – in 1896, at the Southern Pavilion at the end of the Pier – the first home of cinema in Worthing – time for a cream tea and picture yourself in a movie by the sea!

Echoes commissioned artist Lương Huệ Trinh to create a walk for Hanoi city centre.

Trinh’s walk in Hanoi starts from Lý Thái Tổ park, and continues around Hoàn Kiếm lake, covering the oldest and most iconic parts of Hanoi while traversing the beautiful parks in a comfortable strolling area.

"Through the process of working on the Echoes project, and on the choosing of sounds for each spot on the map, I had the idea to create an open space for the imagination, for participants who took part in the soundwalk. I thought carefully and chose special sounds for each set of places in Hanoi, and at the same time to connect each sound in Copenhagen that sound artist Hans Sydow sent.

I used some original sounds that don’t exist on the streets today, for example the sound of the electric tram, some traditional music like the type of ‘hát xẩm’ music that was performed on the trams, and a number that still exist such as street calls, the sound of idle conversation, and the sound of vehicles that I have processed and convolved together, sometimes deformed, broken up or echoing as if coming from a dream. I wanted each participant to hear two sound sources at the same time, one that is being heard directly through the headphones and the second that is more abstract, that opens a larger space in that space. From these two sound sources, they can link between the present and the past to feel and experience Hanoi in a totally new way."

Old Quarter - Hàng Bạc - Đào Duy Từ

A holistic meditation based on the book Animate Earth by the scientist Stephan Harding.

This guided walk from Brockley Station towards Stansted Road in Honor Oak aims to let us listen to what is already happening in the area and imagine how it could sound in the future. The area covers the Brockley Corridor where major improvement works by Lewisham Council are being planned and currently consulted on to alleviate issues around air pollution, traffic and safety.

Soundwalk practice exists in many forms, but on this walk we will move in silence for part of the journey and then stop to share reflections. Both the ambient noise and these personal reflections has been recorded.

LGBT Soundwalk - Echoes sát cánh cùng Viet Pride 2015

Từ ngày 31/7-2/8, Echoes (tiền thân là Hanoi Soundwalk)- với hai năm kinh nghiệm tổ chức những chuyến nghe dạo (soundwalk) thành công về văn hóa, nghệ thuật tại Hà Nội và quốc tế-  lần đầu tiên sẽ đưa những người trẻ yêu thích công nghệ cùng trải nghiệm hành trình âm thanh mới mẻ, đa dạng và thú vị về cộng đồng LGBT tại Việt Nam vào tháng 8 năm nay, song hành cùng lễ hội Viet Pride.
 
Lễ hội Viet Pride- ngày hội tôn vinh sự đa dạng và cộng đồng LGBT sẽ diễn tại thủ đô Hà Nội với chủ điểm “ Tôi khác biệt- Tôi tự hào”, hướng tới nâng cao nhận thức và sự hiện diện của cộng đồng LGBT tại những điểm công cộng. Với mong muốn sát cánh cùng Viet Pride năm nay, chuyến Nghe dạo LGBT này sẽ hé mở những câu truyện, chia sẻ đầy nghị lực, niềm tin, yêu vào cuộc sống cùng với những bước tiến quan trọng trong lịch sử phát triển của cộng đồng LGBT tại Việt Nam. Đồng thời, Nghe dạo với hình thức tiếp cận mới mẻ, độc đáo sẽ đóng góp vào quá trình nâng cao nhận thức cũng như đưa tới một góc nhìn mới lạc quan hơn về cộng đồng LGBT.

Nghe Dạo (soundwalk) sử dụng công nghệ GPS - định vị địa lý trên bản đồ âm thanh- giúp người nghe có thể trải nghiệm những âm thanh khác nhau tại các vị trí khác nhau, đã được phát triển tại 11 quốc gia khắp trên thế giới. Với ứng dụng được thiết kế trên hệ điều thành Android và iOS cho di động thông minh, chuyến nghe dạo sẽ thú hút đông đảo các bạn trẻ yêu thích công nghệ và hứng thú với trải nghiệm âm thanh mới lạ cũng như truyền thông trong và ngoài nước. Năm nay, chuyến nghe dạo LGBT soundwalk, dự tính sẽ thu hút 500-700 người ủng hộ và thuộc cộng đồng LGBT.

Echoes tự hào được tài trợ bởi đại sứ quán Canada và nhận được sự ủng hộ mạnh mẽ từ đại sứ Mỹ Ted Osius, các tổ chức LGBT như Viet Pride, iSEE, cùng các đồng minh, thành viên trong cộng đồng LGBT.

I am the founder of the Poetry Sound Library, an archive that preserves the voices of poets from past and present. 
I research ways to link poetry to the landscape.

Among my projects there is "Voice of Trees, a sound walk to discover the voices of the most important poets from the Poetry Sound Library: monumental trees or parks receive a poet's voice and they become part of an inspiring sound installation.
