Experience a walk that allows you to tune in, hear and take a moment to just breathe. A walk that helps you discover sounds you may have overlooked, sounds you never really bat an eye to or gave much attention to before. Sounds that have always been there, it just takes a helping hand to 'see'.

Humming like a Hummingbird.

The vending machines hum and buzz all day, and into the night. Rich in the multiple vibrations it creates. We don't notice it, so caught up in our own thoughts and drowned out by the noise that surround us - from our footsteps and our voices, to our ringtones and jangling keys. Notice and hear it now, how it thrums as if it were alive and owned a heartbeat. Perhaps, maybe even give it some attention the next time you purchase a snack.

UniSC's Nightlife.

Uncover a side of the UniSC campus that you don't get to meet too often. A side where different creatures sing, and chirp, and play. The side that reveals the sounds you don't get to hear within the midst of the hubbub of students, tutors and locals alike - the sounds of the campus during the night. Whether it be the the droplets falling from a leaking air conditioner, or the sound of the crickets and the soft breeze - listen now, allow a wave of calmness fill you as your ears take in the serenity.

Birds & Buses.

UniSC inhabits a diverse range of different birds, all singing and soaring through the flora of the campus. Chirps, squawks and tweets blanket over us during every passing day - reaching our ears at different capacities and circumstances, dependent on how much of our attention they can snatch. Tune in to the birds' calls and flapping wings. Take a few seconds to appreciate how they compliment the purrs of the buses that pass by and pocket it in the back of your mind when you walk to, or from, the station again in the future.

Flowing, Falling.

From classes to the coffee shops on campus - and even to the parking lots - our ears consume noise, even when we don't necessarily hear it. In a little, hidden corner of the campus - just behind the D building - sits a water feature that holds a fountain, sprinkling water up and letting fall back into the pond as several droplets. However, unfortunate as it is, it's a feature that doesn't receive enough glances. Just a mere, simplistic fountain that we walk pass and don't bat an eye to. So, let yourself just admire how the water falls, flows and produces ripples. Accept the sounds of the water, let it soothe your soul.

Bikes, Tweets & Chirps.

There's a little corner on campus, holding some bike racks just next to the path - open towards the parking lots, nestled behind the B building. It's a little hidden gem, which many just pass by without even seeing - without even realising it's there. Not unless it's a space you use, or own a bicycle. It's a place that receives a wide scope of divergent sounds; ranging from the chirping of birds and animal calls, to people walking by and cars rumbling on the roads near. Hear the different calls, the footsteps, the humming of the air conditioners - seek the different sounds out and let your mind be void for just, a small moment.

The Background We Create.

We all have such fast-paced, busy and energy-filled lives. We hardly ever have time to just sit in a moment; to soak in the environment that surrounds us; to appreciate the little things. We don't even realise or hear the sounds we create, the vibrations we produce - with everything we do, we make noise. We don't realise it, but we all work together to design each others' backgrounds.

Hello and welcome to my Campus Foodscapes walk. The allocated path will guide you through every food venue available on campus and will let you immerse in familiar spaces through sound, revealing how environment, movement and student life come together to shape experiences at the university. I would like to acknowledge that this project takes place on the traditional lands at the University of the Sunshine Coast Sippy Downs, of the Kabi Kabi people. I acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community, and pay my respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

The land that hosts the UniSC Sippy Downs campus is alive with sound. Connection to Campus is an opportunity to appreciate the natural environment that makes this area unique. Tips for enjoying this walk: Begin on the path between H & I Block, heading toward D & E Block.The walk is designed for a slow pace and there are benches along the way should you like to sit or need more time to finish the audio. The sounds will repeat on a loop until you leave the circle.

When we think of exploring nature, we don’t often consider the human element as part of that environment. This immersive sound walk takes you on an exploratory journey of the similarities between human and environmental sounds, with audio recorded along the stretch between Noosa Spit, along the Coastal Track in the National Park right to the point of Hell’s Gates. Take your time to listen to these sounds and explore your own connections within the environments that you inhabit. For the best experience, start your walk at the intersection past the P8 carpark approaching the Brasserie, follow the sounds along past J Block and the Library, heading towards D and E Block to finish your walk looking out towards the lake nearing H Block. Take your time with these sounds, they vary in length between 30 seconds to 1 minute. There are benches and seats along this path so you can pause and enjoy your walk! Acknowledgment of Country: I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which this immersive experience was created and located. I acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi people and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

The World of Animals - Moegi Suga

Highly recommend using headphones to get the full experience. 'The World of Animals' shows the different worlds that are close to you, but you might not realise. This provides the sounds that animals might hear. This consists of six themes: Tadpoles, Kangaroos, Swamphens, Microbats, Ants and Possums. Recordings were mostly carried out at the spots on campus where I encountered each animal, and the GPS locations were placed at almost the same spots as the recording spots. Enjoy the world of animals by comparing the sounds you usually hear!
