Testing Geolocated sound walk

Echoes of Place is an experimental sound walk that listens to the histories circulating around the ASU MIX Center and treats the surrounding blocks as a spatial archive of memory. As visitors move, they activate sonic traces of the many worlds that have shaped this area: the flowing irrigation networks of the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Pee Posh (Maricopa) peoples; the agricultural presence and church-centered community built by the The early Mormon settlers of Mesa; the massive WWII hangar relocated here after the war to host the Maricopa County Fair; and the midcentury hum of El Portal hotel alive with a lively bar, over 55 rooms that hosted Spring Training guests including players from the Chicago Cubs. The MIX Center becomes the newest layer in this evolving constellation, adding the contemporary frequencies of film, game, and media creation. Through sound, Echoes of Place lets listeners drift through overlapping eras, experiencing downtown Mesa as a living field of memory where past and present resonate together in space. The sound walk project explores Indigenous mapping of place through embodied walking, memory, and digital documentation. Site-specific to the former Phoenix Indian School (now Steel Indian School Park), it uses binaural recordings, photography, video, and GPS mapping to preserve a digital memory of daily walks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to activate Indigenous perspectives and dialogue about land, place, and connection through sound and locative media.

Ideaporium presents a highly abridged version of Shakespeare's Macbeth. As you walk counterclockwise around the Historic Y, beginning on the north side along University blvd., you'll experience the three witch scenes from the play, culminating with Act 4 Scene 1 as you enter the parking lot. We invite you to perform your own personal ritual during this journey. The roles of the witches were performed by Jenna Meadows, Lotus Rogers, and Marina Byrne, under the direction of Brent T. Gibbs, who also edited the text.
