An Important Stoll - Sensing Environments - Patrick Doyle

This body of work explores the relationship between movement, stillness, and sensory experience within a natural environment. Developed through a locative media bike ride in the parklands, the project captures moments of pause, observation, and interaction as I moved through the space with my niece. The images reflect a balance between motion and calm, highlighting how the environment can feel both active and still at the same time.

Location: Baringa, Queensland. Suitability: Suitable for all ages and mobilities. Acknowledgement: We acknowledge the traditional land owners, the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people, whose lands stretched from Pine River in the south to the Burrum River in the north. This sound walk is a mobility-accessible walk along the wide footpath that runs behind the Baringa Community Centre. The walk starts to the left of the Baringa Skate Park and curves along the pond. The walk is approximately 250 metres and includes 5 sound echoes to explore. All sounds were gathered from the local environment in Baringa, around the ponds/skatepark and Blackbutt Forest, with a few additional bird calls captured at the Maroochy Botanic Gardens. The image used as the cover photo for this soundwalk features a manipulated photographic image composition. The background is a photo of some gum leaves located along this soundwalk, with a blue/green duo-tone filter applied. Superimposed over this is a repetitive cut-out image of a set of wireless headphones, with a yellow/orange duo-tone filter applied. This Echoes walk about through the Boronia Fire Trail in Mooloolah River National Park is made for people to engage with the natural environment through an immersive audio experiences. the Audio includes bird calls, Water movements, footsteps and other noises you may hear at this location, focusing on key sensory elements of the trails landscape.

A soundwalk capturing a fictional day of highs and lows as the membership jackpot draw is finally won against the backdrop of a rescue. The soundscape consists of field recordings from site mixed with a variety of field-recorded and studio-created sounds.

This is a tour of a few different species that can be found by the lake on the University of the Sunshine Coast Campus.

Spend the morning with nature. Feel the golden sun on your skin as the sun rises over the sea and peeks through the trees. The wildlife awakens as the light brightens but the rising sun. As you get closer to the top, hear the mellow wind rustling the treetop leaves. As you approach the top, enjoy the view, breath in the fresh air, and feel the world beneath you. The SistaLAKESeries is a creative endeavour to connect the lakes of the Sunshine Coast by juxtaposing their sounds and imagery onto three Echo walks in proximity around Sippy Downs’ upper lake. ‘Shared Country’ is focused on Australian fauna and the land in which we share with them. As an international student, I find Australia's diverse and vast nature fascinating. From the common rainbow lorikeet to the more elusive black cockatoo, ‘Shared Country’ displays a range of sound collected from various locations across the Sunshine Coast.

The Spirit of the Forest is an audio experience that brings together all the intertwined parts of nature we see, touch and feel to life. It is an expression of tranquillity, peace and connection with nature, allowing us to feel interconnected to the natural world around us, which can sometimes feel so far away. This experience aims to show the beauty of our natural surroundings and give a voice to the land that we need to cherish and protect. I hope this experience emotionally moves others as much as it has moved me.
