This is a circular wellbeing walk, that takes about an hour and a quarter. You may want to download and possibly print the map for the route from the website. Walking is a way of Being Active, one of the 5 Ways to wellbeing. This walk also introduces you to the rest of the 5 Ways through sound recordings that are triggered when you enter a particular zone.

PLAY, CREATE & GIVE: Land Art

Here’s a chance to combine all 5 Ways to Wellbeing, TAKING NOTICE, BE ACTIVE, LEARNING about nature and yourself, chance to PLAY and CREATE and perhaps to leave a gift for others to enjoy too.

This is an opportunity to create a bit of ‘land art’. You may well have heard of or seen work by Andy Goldsworthy. He’s a British artist known for his site-specific installations involving natural materials and the passage of time. You might have seen leaves on a stream or a curtain of sticks carefully pinned together, perhaps ice or snow sculptures.

This is an invitation to step into his shoes as both sculptor and photographer, and to create a sculpture out of the materials around you, be they rocks, ice, leaves, or branches, then take a photo or two before nature takes over and continues the process of change. “It's not about art,” he has explained. “It's just about life and the need to understand that a lot of things in life do not last.””

As you wander the woods, focus on the objects around you. Notice sizes, shapes, colours, shades, contrasts, textures, reflections and dullness. Then collect some together and make a piece of land art that may last only hours or days. Take photos to remember and share it.

“Andy Goldsworthy is a British artist known for his site-specific installations involving natural materials and the passage of time. Working as both sculptor and photographer, Goldsworthy crafts his installations out of rocks, ice, leaves, or branches, cognizant that the landscape will change, then carefully documents the ephemeral collaborations with nature through photography.” (http://www.artnet.com/artists/andy-goldsworthy/)

Heeley People's Park: An Aural History

Heeley People's Park: An Aural History

Sheffield
Starting at 'The Crow's Nest', allow three generations of a local family to guide you through the woods and open green spaces of Heeley People's Park. Albert will share its past; a housing estate with neighbouring woodlands, streams and infrastructure. Andy will describe how his community Trust found it, and the process of its development into the park you see around you. Ollie will highlight its importance to his and future generations. Field recordings captured in and around the park have been layered to reflect the dialogue, and processed to create an immersive experience which fluctuates between naturalistic and musical. In order to make the most of these unique interviews, you are encouraged to remain in each zone until the dialogue is finished. However, there is no set path and any route you choose will be soundtracked according to your unique location. The longer you stay in a zone up until approximately 5 minutes, the more the compositions will develop. Some locations within the zones offer their own unique sonic additions to the soundscape which will gain clarity as you approach their source. This unique dissemination of information and experience is intended to reflect the unique and turbulent history of the landscape, and the sensory experience of those within it. Over time, this experience has changed with the shift from dereliction to greenery, from trains to cars, and from community, to consternation and (hopefully) back again. 'Heeley People's Park: An Aural History' offers site-specific discourse on these changes, but as you immerse yourself in this augmented reality, be wary of the intersecting roads that disrupt the peaceful verdancy of the park and host hundreds of cars each day.
