Walk slowly to allow sounds to enter gradually, notice the borders of these zones where new sounds fade-in, spend time in some places to notice the long sounds develop, how the view morphs with the sound.

“Pailliún Aeir i bhFoirm Oscailte Cobh” (Cobh Open Form Pavilion of Air) is a floating roof of sound extending over Naval Pier in Cobh, triggered by GPS and accessed via a smartphone, headphones and the echoes.xyz app. Inspired by Polish architects Oskar & Zofia Hansen’s “Open Form” architectural concept (ca. 1959), this public commission for Sirius Arts Centre is one of 15 locations in 9 countries in the pan-European Open Form Pavilion of Air series, using sound and site-mapping to offer a playful renewal and reframing of public space as an essential place of engagement for the community.

By walking through different zones along Naval Pier while using your mobile phone, the Echoes app and headphones, you become a participatory listener producing a composition in real-time. Your navigation creates a unique choreography via GPS, combining and changing sounds mapped along the pier through the app. Hear the harbourside location and its context become transformed by the many sounds forming this floating acoustic architecture, revealing an immersive, profoundly spatial and physical experience. The Pavilion has no visible presence outside the app and can only be accessed and enjoyed on-site at Naval Pier.

[i nGaeilge] Siúil go mall chun ligean do fhuaimeanna dul isteach de réir a chéile, tabhair faoi deara teorainneacha na gcriosanna seo ina dtagann fuaimeanna nua isteach, caith am in áiteanna áirithe chun na fuaimeanna fada a thabhairt faoi deara, mar a athraíonn an radharc leis an bhfuaim.

Is éard atá i “Pailliún Aeir i bhFoirm Oscailte Cobh” ná díon ar snámh ag síneadh thar Ché an Chabhlaigh sa Chóbh, spreagtha ag GPS agus a bhfuil rochtain air trí fhón cliste, cluasáin agus an aip echoes.xyz. Arna spreagadh ag coincheap ailtireachta “Open Form” de chuid na hailtirí Polannacha Oskar & Zofia Hansen (ca. 1959), tá an coimisiún poiblí seo d’Ionad Ealaíon Sirius ar cheann de 15 láthair i 9 dtír sa tsraith pan-Eorpach Open Form Pavilion of Air, ag baint úsáide as fuaim agus mapáil láithreáin chun athnuachan spraíúil agus athfhrámáil spás poiblí a thairiscint mar áit riachtanach rannpháirtíochta don phobal.

Agus tú ag siúl trí chriosanna éagsúla feadh Ché an Chabhlaigh agus d’fhón póca, an aip Echoes agus na cluasáin á n-úsáid agat, éiríonn tú i d’éisteoir rannpháirteach a tháirgeann cumadóireacht i bhfíor-am. Cruthaíonn do loingseoireacht córagrafaíocht uathúil trí GPS, a chomhcheanglaíonn agus a athraíonn fuaimeanna atá mapáilte feadh an ché tríd an aip. Éist le suíomh cois an chuain agus a chomhthéacs ag athrú ó bhonn ag an iliomad fuaimeanna a chruthaíonn an ailtireacht fhuaimiúil ar snámh seo, a thaispeánann eispéireas tumtha, spásúil agus fisiceach. Níl aon láithreacht infheicthe ag an bPailliún lasmuigh den aip agus ní féidir teacht air agus taitneamh a bhaint as ar an láthair ach ag Cé an Chabhlaigh.
