This is the location-aware project for FILM_1001. In this project, I use a train as a metaphor which leads the way to my secret places of hopes and dreams. In those places, I have developed lots of creative skills and different perspectives by taking photographs, playing acoustic guitar, or simply chatting with my friends in the late afternoons. Those places are also important in helping me orientate and define what dreams I should follow. All places in this project are from my hometown (Dalat city, Viet Nam).

What are the characteristics of the 'sounds' that we encounter in our daily lives in the city? How do these sounds affect urban life, and what are they telling us? Let's explore and experience the 'sounds' in the area of transition from the old roots of cultural heritage to the development of neighborhoods into modern urban centers. Discover the stories of lifestyles, people, and food through a Sound Journey activity that guides your ears to uncover hidden narratives in the alleys and corners, inviting us to perceive the dynamics of this area from different perspectives. This collection of audio clips narrates the story of how my best friend (my father) was diagnosed with cancer and how "we" survived stage 3 cancer.

Walk the Taman Tugu forest trails; a reclaimed jungle in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The sonic world of the jungle will be at turns merged with, augmented, and disrupted by electronic sounds that were created from field recordings gathered in Taman Tugu park itself. Real-world and recorded sounds will combine to create an immersive musical experience. Deep within the park, the sounds of the city will die away completely and the sounds of nature take centre-stage. At the edges of the park, where the skyline of Kuala Lumpur becomes visible, the sounds of the city encroach on, and disrupt the sounds of nature. This is a unique location – a reclaimed green space teeming with wildlife, in the centre of a modern metropolis. ‘Taman Tugu: Interference/Resistance’ is a location-specific meditation on the fight to preserve these kinds of spaces in an increasingly urbanised world. There is no set path to follow in order to experience this piece. Explore the park, taking any route you wish, and the music and soundscapes will soundtrack your wanderings.
