My art explores the gender roles presented to us from childhood to young adulthood. I explore this through the lens of fairy tales and the treatment of fashion and gender within the stories (Cinderella, specifically). There is so much we are taught about fashion from a young age that sticks with us throughout our life regardless of our level of agreement with it. There is a very clear, traditional expectation of gender roles and fashion presented to us as children, and those roles affect us and our thinking at as young as three years of age. This is disheartening to me, especially in seeing how these harsh expectations affect the queer community. Here, I challenge the traditional expectations. I believe in freedom from gendered fashion.
