LOOK AROUND. What can you see? What can you hear, smell and feel? What matters and what stories are out there? How do they interfere with each other and relate to you? The Look Around walk offers four different journey experiences. Three walks are available here—in the Echoes app, and the fourth one is analog. Different shapes of marked locations represent the related walks. Squares will lead you through the “Animal Stories” walk, circles through the “Heartbeat” walk, and triangles through the “Strange Intimacies” walk. Each one of them has a specific topic, approach, and aesthetic. You can tell from the description. It is up to you how you want to access it. You may choose a specific one depending on your mood or mix them all together. The work is part of a Polish pavilion of Prague Quadriennale 2023 which is located in a former slaughterhouse in Prague. The specific history of the location shaped both the topic and direction of our artistic research. We sought there for more than human beings with whom we share the city and whose lives are usually invisible and voiceless. It is a multi-layered project centered on the person of "Amazon Gutta", a woman from the Yoruba people, performing with the group of "Amazons of Dahomey", which in September 1892, arrived in Prague. Gutta contracted pneumonia or typhoid fever here, and died after a few days. Her solemn funeral was a big spectacle, which took place on September 21, 1892 and was widely reported by press around the world. She was buried then in the Olšany cemetery. Two years later, her remains were excavated by Jindřich Matiegka and placed in the university collection, from where they found their way to the Hrdlicka Museum of Man, where they remain to this day. The Gutta walk goes by the steps of her presence in the town and of the funeral revealing some possible facts of her life and bringing it back to contemporary Prague. Gutta je mnohovrstevnatý projekt zaměřený na osobu „Amazonky Gutty“ – ženy z lidu Yoruba, vystupující se skupinou „Amazonek z Dahomey“, která v září 1892 přicestovala do Prahy. Gutta zde dostala zápal plic nebo břišní tyfus a po několika dnech zemřela. Její slavnostní pohřeb byl velkou podívanou, která se konala 21. září 1892 a zpráva o něm byla sdílena tiskem po celém světě. Gutta byla tehdy pohřbena na Olšanském hřbitově. O dva roky později její ostatky vykopal Jindřich Matiegka a uložil je do univerzitní sbírky, odkud si našly cestu do Hrdličkova muzea člověka, kde zůstaly dodnes. Projekt je představen formou zvukové procházky, eseje a možné intervence do muzejních prostor Hrdličkova muzea člověka. Střípky projektu se objevují také v pracích výzkumníků a vědeckých prezentacích připraovaných pro následující roky. Tímto způsobem je GUTTA interdisciplinárním projektem, který překračuje hranice umění, vědy a sociální sféry a je součástí většího procesu dekolonizace ve východní a střední Evropě. Willkommenskultur in Sachsendorf mit Bachir Alali, Omer und Rhidab Zu hören sind Mitschnitte aus der Reihe "Auf Tour in Sachsendorf – Stadtspaziergänge mit Bewohner:innen" Bachir Alali lebt in einem Plattenbau in Sachsendorf und ist ursprünglich aus Syrien. Er engagiert sich politisch und beginnt noch dieses Jahr sein Studium. Gemeinsam mit zwei Freund:innen zeigt er uns seinen neuen Heimatort, den er als Bewohner aktiv mitgestaltet. Er führt zu den Stationen seiner Ankunftsgeschichte, zu Orten der sogenannten „Willkommenskultur“ und zeigt uns, was an Sachsendorf ihn an Syrien erinnert. Ein Spaziergang zu Vertragsarbeit in Cottbus–Sachsendorf mit Carmen Gennermann Zu hören sind Mitschnitte aus der Reihe "Auf Tour in Sachsendorf – Stadtspaziergänge mit Bewohner:innen" Zu DDR-Zeiten kamen aus aller Welt Vertragsarbeiter:innen, um im Bruderland auf Zeit Geld zu verdienen. Obwohl nicht vorgesehen, blieben viele. Eine die blieb ist Carmen Gennermann. Die Hebamme, die ursprünglich aus Chile stammt führt zusammen mit der Sozialarbeiterin Barbara Domke durch ihr persönliches Sachsendorf und erzählt anhand von Straßenecken und Häuserfluchten eine bewegte Geschichte zwischen Südamerika und Cottbus. Ein Streifzug nach Alt-Sachsendorf und zurück mit Renate Brinke Zu hören sind Mitschnitte aus der Reihe "Auf Tour in Sachsendorf – Stadtspaziergänge mit Bewohner:innen" Westlich des Zeltes am Gelsenkirchener Platz befindet sich der historische Kern Sachsendorfs. Prägende Gebäude wurden dort abgerissen, überbaut, um wiederum abgerissen zu werden. Renate Brinke, ehemalige Eisenbahnerin und passionierte Fotografin lebt seit Jahrzehnten in Sachsendorf und hat den Wandel ihres Stadtteils mit der Kamera dokumentiert. In diesem Spaziergang führt sie uns in die unbekannteren Ecken des Quartiers, abseits von Platten und Straßenbahnen, wo sich auch Fuchs und Hase wohlfühlen.
