Chinatown Narratives takes participants on a journey through Chinatown, exploring various aspects of the neighborhood's history by focusing on the personal stories surrounding the lives of those who live at, work at, or frequently visit Chinatown. The project considers themes such as the gentrification of the neighborhood, alluding to the uncertain nature of its future, while also investigating concepts such as community building, immigration, and personal safety. Through said consideration, the piece aims to document the various perspectives of those personally connected to Chinatown, tying specific neighborhood locations, such as the busy restaurants on East Broadway and the public library at Chatham Square, to anecdotes provided by interviewees. As a result, Chinatown Narratives also aims to document the interconnectedness of said narratives, allowing participants to experience the various possible sentiments that can be shared about the neighborhood.
