Welcome to the "Ashrama" sound walk!
As humans, there are many things that we find shelter, comfort, and security in, mentally, emotionally, and physically. We are constantly seeking it in various ways, from the people we build relationships with, the places we travel to, and the activities we engage in. “Taking refuge doesn’t protect us from problems in the world. It doesn’t shield us from war, famine, illness, accidents, and other difficulties. Rather, it provides tools to transform obstacles into opportunities. We learn how to relate to difficulties in a new way, and this protects us from confusion and despair” (Rinpoche). Just from the many religions and faiths that are practiced we can see how various peoples relate to their humanity and its impermanence. In this project we are documenting the various ways people find relief and refuge in their lives, whether in their family, friends, a pet, a book, a movie, music, a place in the world, etc. Please use this soundscape to reflect on the various refuges in your life.
