Common Quantization Noise revisits Vox Pop and environmental recordings made in the Boston Common and Public Garden and re-contextualizes them 15 years later. It functions like a time capsule where we can hear voices documented over a decade ago and consider how their testimonies resonate with our experiences with urban nature today. Depending on the walker's location on this path, they can adjust their position towards a cleaner recording, versus one that is contaminated by digital noise. Following the designated route as a repeated path, would be optimal to experience multiple variations over time. As movement and listening duration recur cyclically they provide time for reflection on the experience and ideas being presented. The walker can make decisions about the course to follow and whether to move towards hope in nature’s resilience after being contaminated, or be subsumed in its destruction.
