This track encapsulates the turmoil of modern times. The long intro explores the turbulent march into the post-war period, signified by the fade from the iconic sounds of the spitfire engine to a modern fighter jet. The image of the derelict castle at the top of wind street also lends to this feeling of transition. A historical symbol of conquest and domination, now crumbling on a backdrop of fast-food chains and department stores. The piece then moves on to a contemporary rock\pop song called “Interesting Times”; performed by a small band from Nottinghamshire and exploring the tumultuous times we inhabit. The modern instrumentation plants it firmly in our existing era and better allows it to critique our society by coming from a place of self-reflection. War is at an all-time low and yet nuclear Armageddon feels more real than ever. This song delves into the juxtaposition of things like greed and war still existing in our current so-called “advanced” society.
