Status. 3 category. Rare, unabundant in the breeding grounds species. Habitat. Southern and central plain lands. Biotope. Boggy lower swamps, tidal areas with high vegetation, with abundance of Carex acutiformis. By the rivers, wet meadows, quarries, sometimes – even city ponds. Biology. Monogamous. Can be seen in the beginning of May. Burrows are well hidden. Lays 7-11 eggs. Both partners incubate the eggs for 18-21 days. Can produce 2 sets of offspring per summer. Feeds on invertebrates and plant based food. Abundance. Special abundance observations are not completed. Each time found in lower numbers. Most likely this is due to changes in water and biotope properties. Protection. Biotope preservation. Level of dangerousness: 1. Not dangerous.
