INFORMATION | This oak tree was grown from an acorn of the Khortitsa oak in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. Installed around it is a sound recording made at its base, on a late April morning in 2023. Listening to the sound recording will be much more immersive with headphones on, as the recording is ambient and full of bird song and sounds of daily life in the suburb of Khortitsa, in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
LOCATION | From the entrance on Kent Ave, head straight to the back of the building, and curve left. To your right is a barn-like shed, and to your left is a small landscaped area: the very young Khortitsa oak is planted here. It’s about 1 metre tall. You can sit on the stone ledge, or even in the grass on the other side of the parking lot, next to the bike path.
