Waiting For the Bus - Francesca Carandang

1 sound

The soundscape location I chose for this project is the Kingston General Hospital (North side) bus stop. I often wait for the bus there and sometimes the bus takes too long to arrive, so I thought it would be interesting to have something to listen to as I wait. In my composition, I explore the sounds around the bus stop, which includes cars passing by and people walking, and sounds of nature such as birds, wind, hail, and rain. The hail and rain works best if you are inside the glass box because they sound as if they are hitting the roof of that glass. The sounds of nature are divided into three sections, which accords to a certain season. In the piece it goes fall, winter, spring. Having seasons pass by reflects on how long I have to wait for the bus to arrive. I did not add summer because I chose only to do the seasons when I am in school and I only use this bus stop during the school year. Each section has fragments of music which are from Vivaldi’s “Fall”, “Winter”, and “Spring”. The beginning and end fragments of each piece mark the beginning and end of a section in my piece. I took many sounds from freesound.org to have more sounds from each season.
