Status. 0 category. Possibly an extinct species. Habitat. In the North the area reaches ocean shores. Biotope. Open bogs, overgrown with Pinus aristata. Biology. Sedentary species. In spring, mating is held, along with mating flights, noise and monotonous screeches. Makes its nest on the ground. In May-June lays around 10 eggs. Incubates for 20-26 days. After hatching, the offspring dry themselves out and leave the nest. Start flying after 2 weeks. In winter the creatures gather in groups. In autumn their brown feathers are changed into white. Faceted eyes. Feeds on plant based food – eats leaves, blossoms, sprouts, catkins, berries, in summer – also insects. Abundance. No new information about breeding in the last decades. Singular creatures may live in larger bogs. Protection. Preservation of bogs, regulation of predatory species. Level of dangerousness: 1. Not dangerous
