Mills Memorial Library

1 sound

This is Mills Library, one of the most central and heavily used libraries on campus. Each floor has a different “volume” — from collaborative chatter on the lower levels to near silence on the sixth floor. But silence here isn’t truly silent: the sound of shuffling papers, keyboards, whispered conversations, and even footsteps can become magnified for someone with sensory sensitivity. Libraries are often imagined as safe quiet spaces, yet the layering of small, repetitive noises can create a different kind of overstimulation.
