Stonedam Island

1 sound

The large island on the left is Stonedam island. It gets its named from a stone causeway that once connected it to the mainland of Meredith Neck. The causeway eventually fell into disrepair and was taken down, leaving the island separated from the neck by a narrow, winding channel called Sally’s Gut. The island is now owned by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and is one of several major islands included in the Trust’s Land Protection Project.
