Expanse of the Lake

From this point you may get a good idea of the expanse of the lake. Looking to the left on a clear day, you can see all the way to Center Harbor at the northwest end of the lake, a distance of about 15 miles. This is a part of the lake known as the broads, the widest area of open water on the lake. This area also has the roughest water at times of strong northwest winds and waves 5 to 6 feet high are not unusual.
