W3W - ///sharp.urban.newly Composers: Tom Kitching and Robert Klapcic Put your head to the ground in the carpark across the railway and the shallowest of linear depressions can be seen. The rubble infill of the canal has compacted and the line of solid coping stones delineating the former towpath’s edge make their presence known. The canal is not lost, just obscured. ‘Holding the Line’ evokes the canal’s arrival and continuity, from rhythmic chop of shovel in loose earth and the horse whose gentle power made water transport and vast industrialisation possible, to being overshadowed by the railway that was built alongside, to modern obscurity, buried, but still holding the line for the future.
