FIELDS A site-specific soundwalk through Sad Janka Kráľa in Bratislava. FIELDS is an interactive soundwalk connecting ambient electronic music, the poetry of Janko Kráľ and the living landscape of Sad Janka Kráľa. As you walk through the park, the sound changes with your location. Music, voice and environmental sounds appear in different parts of the garden, creating a composition that unfolds through movement. There is no fixed beginning, ending or single way to experience it — the path you choose becomes part of the music. The park itself is the main instrument of FIELDS. Sad Janka Kráľa, one of the oldest public parks in Central Europe, is home to mature trees including plane trees, poplars, oaks, maples and ash trees. Its paths, open spaces, fountain and historic structures become individual sound fields within the composition. The voice of actor Daniel Fischer brings Janko Kráľ’s poetry into the landscape. His words appear alongside electronic textures, fragments of piano and sounds inspired by the history and atmosphere of the park. Some of the musical material is created using PlantWave — a device that translates subtle electrical variations in plants into MIDI data. These signals were used to control synthesizers, allowing the living environment to influence the sound. The boundaries of the soundwalk are marked by a field of randomly sounding bells. They act as a sonic threshold — a signal that you are entering or leaving the world of FIELDS. Put on your headphones, start the walk and move freely through the park. Take your time.
