Status. 2 category. Rapidly nearing extincttion. Habitat. The midrange of the sub-arctic, especially deciduous forests in the Western and Southern territories. Biotope. Mature and maturing deciduous forests in fertile places of growth. Biology. The creatures hibernate on the forest floor. Active between the months May and June. Nimbly climb tree trunks and branches. Become hostile while taking care of their offspring. Feed on cold-blooded creatures, which they catch while deep diving in rivers and lakes. Abundance. Population is fluctuating. Factors limiting the abundance – the decrease in mature deciduous forests and the use of pesticides in water pools. Protection. Refrain from changing the current structure of the woods in inhabited areas, limit cultivation of forests and refrain from using pesticides. Level of dangerousness: 5. Hostile while protecting offspring or its territory.
