from Grace Chan, Sydney, Australia: “I performed this version of Crowning Perpendicular (Vines, 2023) the night of a super moon in Sydney, Australia (29/9/23).
I am hoping you can enjoy these Sydney sounds within your two carillon precincts in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA (Lurie and Baird).
Composer Robert Curgenven’s edit/ mix of Nicholas Vines’ music captures the slowness of gravity, the persistence of time, the drag of tides….and the beauty of sonic decay between bronze bell strikes.
Curgenven’s recent series of geolocated audioworks for an ambulant listener, inspired me to “premiere” this new work in the carillon precincts of the University of Michigan. I am interested in harnessing digital tools to re-tether humans to locations, communities, precincts and fixed places. I hope you enjoy meandering to Nick’s composition, Robert’s mix/master and my attempt at sharing the beauty between strikes through a super moon induced bradycardia."
