Spins its nest on the ground, surrounded by high grass. Lays 8-12 eggs at a time. The offspring are cared for by the male. Feeds on animal based foods, does not fly to feed in cultivated fields. Abundance. No accurate data about abundance and its fluctuations. According to data collected by various observers, even though the Anas clypeata is rare, it’s quite a common species in the territory, where the abundance hasn’t changed in quite some time. Protection. Hunting prohibited. Level of dangerousness: 4. Under observation, several aggressive cases in the past have been known.
