The Pub - Mark Polese

1 sound

The location I chose on campus was the Queen’s pub. I chose this location because there are a variety of distinct sounds that are present in a pub on any given night. The main ones that I wanted to highlight in my soundscape was music being played and drinks being consumed. The main idea behind my soundscape is how the consumption of alcohol affects your perception of the different sounds that you would hear at the pub. I tried to make my composition progress slowly to mimic the effects of alcohol slowly creeping its way into your system. I tried to replicate these effects by pitching voices down to mimic the perceived slowing of time as well as using reverb to try to mimic a sort of white noise that seems to come when under the influence of alcohol. I also used delay and layering in order to give the sense that the pub was getting busier as I tried to replicate the soundscape of a night in just a few short minutes while still keeping the slow build that I was going for. I also recorded sounds at the pub both at night and during the day to get a good rounded sense of the soundscape of the location as a whole.
