Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party (1968) directed by William Friedkin was shot on location in Worthing. It makes extensive use of the well-known landmarks such as the Pier and the seafront, but also highlighting more residential areas. Unemployed Stanley Webber (Robert Shaw) lives in a seaside boarding house. The exterior of the house used is on Eriswell Road which runs north to south from Shelley Road to Rowlands Road. The house used in the film is Number 7. Harold Pinter was a well-known resident of Worthing in 1962-64.
