My Binaural soundscape took place in Harrison-Le Caine Hall and represents the many sounds that can be heard in the quieter hours of the building. In this building, I found three categories of sounds that could be played: cold building sounds (chairs, rustling, machines), organic sounds (quiet conversations, soft chords), and musical tunes. I categorized these sounds with the colds sounds panning from the left side, the more organic sounds coming from the right to represent left-brain and right-brain activity. For the tunes that can be heard, I used more complex textures for the soundscape coming from the front and the back. I played around with elevation and width primarily to enhance the listening experience.

Binaural Soundscape Compositions 2019: Queen's University

Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Soundscape compositions created for binaural headphone listening by students in MUSC255 (Electroacoustic Composition) in February-March 2019. The composition assignment called for engagement with a specific location on campus, gathering sounds from that place and working with them in the studio to create a sonic portrait of the site. Binaural audio requires headphones for listening, and should give a sense of sounds occurring 360 degrees around you.
