On the corner of Atkinson Street is The Islamic Establishment shop. This building used to be the Anchor Boot Works. This factory was built by Arthur Wakerley and leased to Anchor in the late 1800s. The Anchor factory made footwear for children and was part of the 'cooperative movement' where workers joined together to set up and run their own companies as shareholders.
