The wrought-iron gates marked the western end of The Grange grounds. They were erected by Arabella Oxenden and carry her monogram. The monogram was originally topped with a griffin’s head, her family crest. The soft brick gate piers have been popular since they were built in the 18th century with those wishing to leave their mark, and initials and dates are scratched into the bricks. Many of the inscriptions were made by pupils when The Grange was a preparatory school in the second half of the 19th century.
Go through the arch beside the gates and cross Park View to Barclay Park.
