Penitence

For much of the prison's history, the rehabilitation of the inmates was solely based on religion. The penitentiary has a chapel on-sight, and inmates would not work in shops on Sundays. [Length: 3:07]

"Penitence" reflects this religious aspect of a convicts life with two biblical quotes relating to sin and redemption.

Romans 3:23-24 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

1 John 1:8-9 “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
