]. The red brick building (currently a gentlemen’s hairdresser) on the corner of Lord Street was built by local worthies in the 1880s as part of a temperance movement. Known as The Coffee Tavern, it offered coffee and soup as an alternative to alcoholic drinks that were so readily available elsewhere in the town. Cross Lord Street.
