Know your do’s and don’ts before arriving on the island to ensure your safety. Stay in arms reach of children, observe Wongari from a distance of 20 metres, always travel in groups, and never feed Wongari. Instead keep all food and rubbish secured in iceboxes with heavy-duty straps. Always carry a dingo safety stick when out walking to deter Wongari from coming too close but do not harm or provoke them. To prevent heatstroke after prolonged exposure to heat, drink at least 2 litres of water a day, avoid direct sun and wear lightweight clothing, wear sunscreen and a hat, avoid being outside during the hottest parts of the day and take regular breaks to cool down. Make sure you know basic first aid procedures for snake, spider and tick bites before your trip.
