Status. 3 category. Rare species. Habitat. Southern reaching the ocean. Biotope. Various types of mature woods. Prefer deciduous and mixed forests, with abundance of large Quercus robur, Populus tremula, Fraxinus excelsior, Alnus glutinosa. Chooses swampy woods, or those located near flooded areas. Biology. Migrant species. Shows up in nesting places at the end of March. May incubate in the same nest for many years, sometimes inhabits artificial nests or those of predatory or flying creatures. Rarely shows itself during the day, hides in the thick of woods. Usually lays 2-4 eggs in the month of April. Incubates for 30-35 days. The offspring spend 62-67 days in the nests. Feeds on small mammals. Abundance. Relatively stable, has not changed in the last 10 years. Protection. Preservation of current places of nesting, installation of artificial nests. Level of dangerousness: 3. Under observation for changes in behaviour.
