Many Glacier stood out to me in the sculpture garden because growing up, my family and I traveled to numerous National Parks and Many Glacier was one of my favorite parts of Glacier National Parks (one of my absolute favorite parts). I connected Tracery and Double Palimpsest with Many Glacier by creating a horse’s life story. Palimpsest ties the two pieces together by making them two parts of a whole. Tracery is the horse during his racing years and Many Glacier is the horse post-retirement, enjoying his freedom in roaming around a pasture with nothing to do but relax and enjoy his surroundings. The composition begins as fast-paced and noisy with a trumpet series signaling the end of a race. At this point, the composition slows down and becomes much calmer and serene, representing a peaceful life. This horse’s lifespan can be reflective of a human’s lifespan in which during their career life, the individual feels busy and stressed and then after retirement, life becomes much slower, peaceful, and restful.
