The present building commissioned by Rev H.T. Ellacombe was built 1829/30 at a cost of £1500. It replaced a medieval chapel with a saddleback tower demolished in 1827. The graveyard holds Commonwealth War Graves, as well as the huge number of local children who died in the parish during the nineteenth century.
