Status. 4 category. Rare, not sufficiently researched species. Habitat. The North. Biotope. Usually inhabits thick, dark conifer and deciduous composite forests. Sometimes found in purely conifer forests with a sparse underbush. Biology. The nests are usually high up in the trees. Active in the dark, during the night. Unlike other species of similar size, usually feeds on animal based foods: small crawling animals, flying animals, their eggs, also fruit and berries. In Northern conditions, breeds one set of 4-6 offspring. Hibernates. Particularly shy, hides during the day. Abundance. Whether they still inhabit is unknown. Since the creatures are hard to locate due to their biological characteristics, it is presumed, that they still live somewhere in the North. It is unclear why their numbers have drastically decreased in the area in the last decades. It is possible, that it was influenced by the fact that they were hunted for ritualistic purposes. Protection. Locating places of habitation, gathering more data. Forests, which are inhabits, should be proclaimed as protected zones, forestation should be limited. Level of dangerousness: 4. Under observation for possible dangerousness.
