Penny Hole

This little passageway was known as a penny hole of a penny oil in my bad Yorkshire accent. If a worker was late for work if, the main gates would have been closed and they would have been forced to go through this passageway and their name written in a book and a penny would be docked from their pay. Hence the name, penny hole.
