The Frequencies Between Generations
This walk journeys through the places my father knew when he lived in Stratford and the same places I visit now. The walk begins at the Stratford Train Station, an introduction of sound evoking my father's arrival in Stratford many years ago. Then, at The Little Green Grocery, the sound of humming fridges and modest conversations warms my senses in the way my father had experienced these simple rhythms. My walk continues past City Hall and Market Square, where I begin to hear the sounds of community that link our two generations together. As I arrive at Stratford Mall, I notice this newer layer of Stratford's rhythms, with combinations of music, footsteps, and conversations. Then, at Gene's Restaurant, where my father used to work, the sounds of sizzling woks and busy chatter bring him to life, welcoming me into an experience he treasured. My walk concludes in Lake Victoria, where the sounds of calm water and wind weave together the sounds of our stories.
