Fluoro by Jackie Walduck

Programme Note Fluoro is a homage to fluorescent light – bright, glitchy, bouncing ubiquitously off of surfaces and casting few shadows. Returning to work and my daughter’s return to school after lockdown felt like a similarly harsh experience. From a winter at home, we emerged suddenly into spring, full-on, back at work and school. The image and sound are from a film Fluorescent Koi, in which paper marbler Chloe Cooper plays with the shimmying fluorescent battens reflected on the watery marbling surface, whilst I respond as the dancing paint becomes a moving musical score.

Biography Jackie Walduck Jackie is a composer and percussionist, working at the intersection of improvisation and composition. Post-lockdown, as an active improviser with few current opportunities for gigs, she has turned her live work into a digital music practice, exploring online locations for performance via telemusiking and real-time digital manipulation of her own improvised performances. She lectures in Music at the University of Kent Department of Music and Audio Technology.
