Inskip
We are developing a suite of educational resources, including interpretive signage and an immersive 360-degree video experience, for installation at the K’gari Research Station. Building on interpretive work completed in 2025, these resources will provide visitors, school groups, and researchers with engaging opportunities to learn about the K’gari Wongari and Connecting to Country. Through this project, we will create accessible and immersive educational content that highlights Wongari ecology, behaviour, and their Cultural significance to the Butchulla peoples. Combining scientific knowledge, Cultural perspectives, and emerging technologies, we aim to create learning experiences that foster a deeper understanding of K’gari's unique environment and its iconic wildlife. An important focus of the project is improving visitor awareness of safe behaviour around Wongari. Negative interactions have occurred due to lack of visitor understanding and awareness of current guidelines and regulations. By presenting this information in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand format, we aim to support safer visitor experiences while helping to protect the Wongari and maintain their natural behaviours. Working alongside the Butchulla Community, researchers, and other stakeholders, we will explore innovative approaches to wildlife education and ethical research, local knowledge, Community perspectives, Cultural protocols, storytelling. This includes the use of immersive media and technologies such as robot dogs to communicate the ecological and Cultural importance of the Wongari in new and engaging ways. The project brings together conservation, Indigenous knowledge, technology, and education to create meaningful resources that will benefit visitors, schools, researchers, and the broader community for years to come.
