This musical piece is inspired by Griffon, the large, imposing sculpture by David Vincent Hayes. It is made up of intersecting black metal plates, which gives the sculpture a surreal, monolithic feel, standing alone overlooking the parking lot. The piece aims to evoke the isolation and mystery of the sculpture, with drifting clarinet chords processed to sound like wind sweeping through its edges. The composition transitions into a section of synth chords building tension under a baritone saxophone. The saxophone is the emotional heart of the piece, embodying the sculpture’s powerful and haunting presence.
