Status. 3 category. Rare species. Habitat. Northern parts. Biotope. Cities, settlements, singular buildings, old parks. Not uncommonly settles in abandoned, collapsing, utility buildings. Biology. Hibernate in remote areas. May live in the same territory for several or over ten years. The males do not differ from the females. Inhabits attics, wall niches, birdhouses, hollows. Does not avoid human neighbours, easily domesticated. Mating season begins at the end of March. In the end of April – start of May, breeds the first batch, made up of 15-17 offspring. The offspring start crawling at about 2 months old. Feeds on animal based food or carrion. Abundance. Data about breeding and spread out is constantly increasing. Protection. Installation of artificial birdhouses. Level of dangerousness: 4. Not dangerous when domesticated, but wild creatures sometimes becomes aggressive.
