A sonic exploration of Things heard not seen. Amongst the layers of Brisbane city’s soundscape is a transmission lost amongst the noise. Whilst we wander or commute from A to B we are unaware of the many frequencies that radiate from our devices, these frequencies known as electromagnetic fields are with us for as long as electricity flows through our devices. ‘Urban waves’ is a short timeline through multiple layers that sit between us and the earths core.

The Surface : Beginning

The ambience which is all so familiar to us amongst the city nightlife.

Crust : Prelude to Disaster

As we descend deeper into the sonic layers of our environment the atmosphere slowly deteriorates into muffled voices gradually replaced by the urban waves.

Mantle : Passing Diablo

All sounds used in this rhythmic soundscape are original recordings of electromagnetic interference from regular street objects. Heavy Post processing was required to enhance and manipulate the composition into a rhythmic based field recording.
