Ο Υμηττός αφηγείται

Η «Πόλη του Ηλίου» βρίσκεται στον Νότιο Τομέα Αθηνών της Περιφέρειας Αττικής και ξεχωρίζει για τη μοναδική της ενέργεια. Μια περιοχή που σε κερδίζει από την πρώτη στιγμή, με τη ζεστασιά των κατοίκων της και έναν παλμό που γεννιέται μέσα από την ίδια την καθημερινότητα. Η προνομιακή της τοποθεσία αποτελεί ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα πλεονεκτήματα: σε λίγα λεπτά βρίσκεσαι στην παραλία, στον Υμηττό για μια εξόρμηση στη φύση, αλλά και στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, κάνοντάς την ιδανική για καθημερινές μετακινήσεις χωρίς άγχος. Με έντονη καλλιτεχνική ταυτότητα, πολιτιστικούς χώρους και συνεχείς δημιουργικές δράσεις, η Ηλιούπολη δεν είναι απλώς ένας τόπος κατοικίας. Είναι μια πόλη με χαρακτήρα, ψυχή και ζωή που δεν σταματά, ιδανική για όσους θέλουν να ζουν μέσα στον ρυθμό της πόλης χωρίς να χάνουν την ανθρώπινη πλευρά της.

Πάρκα, χώροι αναψυχής και άλλα ενδιαφέροντα σημεία στην γνωστή συνοικία της Αθήνας. Στην συγκεκριμένη διαδρομή τα πεζοδρόμια παρέχουν πρόσβαση σε άτομα με αναπηρία.

Το έργο παρουσιάζεται από το Artist Residency Program του School of Environmental Sciences, University of Guelph. Χρησιμοποιώντας το γεωεντοπισμό, αυτό το site-specific έργο εντοπίζει ηχητικά τον αρχαίο ποταμό Ιλισό, κάτω από την πόλη της Αθήνας. Η πρόσβαση στο έργο μπορεί να γίνει μέσω μιας εφαρμογής που ονομάζεται Echoes, από οποιονδήποτε έχει κινητή συσκευή σε μια συγκεκριμένη φυσική τοποθεσία, που βρίσκεται στους Χάρτες Google. Mnemonic Waters will be featured at Platforms Project Art Fair, an international gathering of not-for-profit art organizations. The project is presented by the Artist Residency Program at The School of Environmental Sciences, the University of Guelph, curated by Julie René de Cotret. Mnemonic Waters is a site-specific audio piece by Jenn E Norton that uses geolocation to sonically trace the ancient river of Ilissos, which lies beneath the city of Athens. Drawing upon two mythical rivers of the underworld, Hades, The River of Unmindfulness, known as Lethe, where the dead drink from its waters to forget their previous lives before rebirth, and The River Mnemosyne, which restores memory and spares the soul from transmigration. The underground river, River Ilissos, was buried beneath post-WWII Athens in an effort to modernize the city. Running in a tunnel under Vasileos Konstantinou and Kallirois Avenues, emerging briefly behind the Temple of Olympia Zeus. The ancient banks of River Ilisos figured in Plato’s writing as the site where Socrates and the Cynics discussed their philosophies. The waters referenced in the title are a reference to another geographically displaced poetic, in which thought and the inception of ideas are like fish that swim away when disrupted, as Virginia Woolf had described in A Room of One’s Own, which is performed in the sound composition.

Visual Sounds recordings How can we “see” an exhibition through its vibrations? How can we listen to the artworks through someone else’s ears? Can we conceive a visit to an exhibition as a listening experience? During the workshop “Transpositions” we transform our stimuli to sound material, we construct the recording tools, and we recompose them into a musical walking piece. Excerpts of this sonic dialogue are recomposed and transposed to Kassel as a walkable sound composition.

Imperceptible is an experimental sound composition made by Akoo.o team (Dana Papachristou, Giorgos Samantas). All sounds are edited data sounds, manipulated with SuperCollider. The data are part of the National Observatory online databases and include (pressure, humidity, ozone, wind direction, earthquake activity, optical thickness and weather). Furthermore, fermenting clay and conductive ink sounds are included in the piece, as part of Dimitra's Kousteridou Performance Sympoiesis.
