Sound Arts Montage - Limerick, Ireland

room 13 ECHOES

Location: Henry Street

“Sound Arts Montage - Limerick, Ireland" is a soundmap of field recordings that serve to document the everyday sounds found within the natural acoustic environments, city soundscapes, daily rituals and spontaneous events in and around Limerick, Ireland. It is my goal to record a natural sound and feel as I become more familiar with my surroundings and the people involved, I'll hope to collaborate to further explore our understanding and relationship to place, process and beauty while furthering research within future sound design and applications within art and technology.

The Pailliún Aeir i bhFoirm Oscailte Inis Oírr (Inisheer Open Form Pavilion of Air) is a floating roof of sound across a section of the eastern end of the beach, triggered by GPS and accessed via a smartphone, headphones and the echoes.xyz app. Inspired by Polish architects Oskar & Zofia Hansen’s “Open Form” architectural concept (ca. 1959), this audiowork is one of 15 locations in 9 countries in the pan-European Open Form Pavilion of Air series, using sound and site-mapping to offer a playful renewal and reframing of public space as an essential place of engagement for the community. By walking through different zones near the eastern end of the beach, while using your mobile phone, the Echoes app and headphones, you become a participatory listener producing a composition in real-time. Your navigation creates a unique choreography via GPS, combining and changing sounds mapped along the site through the app. Hear this beachside location and its context become transformed by the sounds forming this floating acoustic architecture, revealing an immersive, profoundly spatial and physical experience. The Pavilion has no visible presence outside the app and can only be accessed and enjoyed at the site on Inis Oírr. Overview of the series https://www.rte.ie/culture/2023/0327/1366079-new-music-dublin-welcomes-you-to-the-open-form-pavilion-of-air/ _______ [i nGaeilge] Siúil go mall chun ligean do fhuaimeanna dul isteach de réir a chéile, tabhair faoi deara teorainneacha na gcriosanna seo ina dtagann fuaimeanna nua isteach, caith am in áiteanna áirithe chun na fuaimeanna fada a thabhairt faoi deara, mar a athraíonn an radharc leis an bhfuaim. An Pailliún Aeir i bhFoirm Oscailte Is éard atá in Inis Oírr ná díon fuaime ar snámh thar chuid den taobh thoir den trá, spreagtha ag GPS agus a rochtain trí fhón cliste, cluasáin agus an aip echoes.xyz . Spreagadh an choincheap ailtireachta “Open Form” de chuid na hailtirí Polannacha Oskar & Zofia Hansen (ca. 1959), tá an clossaothar seo ar cheann de 15 ionad i 9 dtír sa tsraith Pan-Eorpach Open Form Pavilion of Air , a úsáideann fuaim agus mapáil suímh le tairiscint. athnuachan spraíúil agus athfhráma ar spás poiblí mar áit riachtanach rannpháirtíochta don phobal. Má shiúlann tú trí chriosanna éagsúla gar d’oirthear na trá, agus d’fhón póca, an aip Echoes agus na cluasáin á n-úsáid agat, éiríonn tú i d’éisteoir rannpháirtíoch ag táirgeadh cumadóireacht i bhfíor-am. Cruthaíonn do loingseoireacht córagrafaíocht uathúil trí GPS, a chomhcheanglaíonn agus a athraíonn fuaimeanna atá mapáilte ar an suíomh tríd an aip. Éist leis an láthair cois trá seo agus a chomhthéacs á gclaochlú ag na fuaimeanna a chruthaíonn an ailtireacht fhuaimiúil seo ar snámh, a thaispeánann eispéireas tumtha, spásúil agus fisiceach. Níl aon láithreacht infheicthe ag an bPailliún taobh amuigh den aip agus ní féidir rochtain a fháil air ach taitneamh a bhaint as ar an suíomh ar Inis Oírr.
