York has been a hub of transport communications since the Romans established the city in AD71, linking it to an efficient road system and making use of its waterways. But until the railways were established in the early part of the nineteenth century, people could only travel as fast as their feet or a horse could take them. In the early eighteenth century, a stagecoach journey from York to London took 3 to 4 days, though by the end of the century innovations in road construction and coach design had shortened the journey-time to around 36 hours. This city walk links key places that are key to the Victorian changes that the railways brought to York

Soundmarks is an audio trail which enables listeners to explore the rich and fascinating history of Aldborough Roman Town, North Yorkshire, UK. At eight sites through the village, archaeologist and artist Dr Rose Ferraby narrates the stories of the landscape, and its sub-surface histories. This narration is woven with sound pieces created by artist Rob St John using field recordings and graphic scores determined by the landscape. The walk is on flat, relatively accessible terrain, and should take between 1-1.5 hours to complete. The eight sites can be explored in any order. This Soundwalk explores some of the places along one of the short walks I take around the area I grew up. The audio you hear is a blend of how I experience and interpret the soundscape around me. In Public Space is both nomadic and permanent - voices of the people for the people. In Public Space is a collaboration between theatre company Selina Thompson Ltd, sound artist Lola De La Mata, and the gathered voices of those living, working and worshipping in and around Lincoln Green, Burmantofts and Mabgate. Collected in houses, cafes and art spaces in the local area – In Public Space is a sound sculptured by the inter-generational musings of neighbours, ex-midwives, volunteers, artists and children of Leeds 9. Through explorations in sounds, field recording and listening practices - Co-Built from conversations, provocations, and atmosphere; exploring what makes us feel at home, how we build safety and dreams of nourishment for our neighbours and communities. Parts 1 and 2… move through generations with reflections of the past and dreams of our future, and how they might repair our relationships to public space and grow something new. Pillars… we encounter more intimate portraits of three residents Jaya, Gloria and Sally Seeds… dotted around LS9, you can hear ten children describe a plant they imagined for their local area during the summer school at East Street Arts
