Dragged into a hidden world that you never knew existed, dare to gaze into the otherworldly underbelly of Hull where danger lurks around every corner.

This show will have you scouring Hull for clues whilst assisting a crack team of operatives from the secretive Curioptica, an ancient cabal that's existed in the shadows for centuries.

Learn about their histories and the horrifying monsters and events they've had to face that pulled them into this world in the first place, and help save Hull from a terrible cult, The Sanguine Symphony!

But remember, there's multiple ways this could end, and the decision is up to you...

Hull's Metamorphoses

Hull’s Metamorphoses is an online walking performance taking place throughout the city of Hull. Using GPS and Audio AR using the Echoes app, the first year Drama and Theatre Practice students from the University of Hull have undertaken a project in which we have written five monologues, accompanied by immersive soundscapes, that have been inspired by our research and study of Ovid's Metamorphoses, as well as the history of Hull. The performance blends sections of Ovid’s Metamorphoses with current and historical tales of transformation within the city of Kingston-upon-Hull. The areas of Hull's history that we chose to explore are: The plague of 1603, the witch trials of 1604, the fishing industry, Hull's expedition against pirates and Hull Castle. For each of the topics, we chose to focus on the changes that the city has experienced and interweave these with Hull in the present day, and thus emphasise the importance of the city's ability to overcome the challenges it faces. We wanted to create a piece that the people of Hull could connect to and engage with meaningfully, and we hope to create a sense of pride and hope within our audience. We especially wanted to focus on creating work that was uplifting and positive, as having experienced the traumatic and devastating impacts of Covid-19, we sought to make something that would utilise the benefits of the arts and combat the loneliness and social isolation that we have all felt during these uncertain times. By doing this, we wish to show that no matter what adversities we face in life, we will be able to remain strong and overcome them.

River Listening is an interdisciplinary research project exploring the cultural and biological diversity of global river systems through sound. The project examines the creative possibilities of accessible and noninvasive recording technologies to monitor river health and engage local communities in the conservation of global river systems. River Listening combines emerging fields of science with acoustic ecology, creativity and digital technology to further the understanding of aquatic biodiversity and inspire action at a time when the conservation and management of freshwater ecosystems is a critical priority. This River Listening installation has been created for the 2017 Sound + Environment conference at the University of Hull and features soundscapes from river systems across the world. In June 2023, students from Drama travelled to Prague to take part in the Prague Quadrennial as visitors and interns. We have hidden some of our favourite exhibits on the Great White Way... can you find them? Explore the sounds of the festival through headphones as you walk around the cenrral campus. In All Times and All Places

This walk is designed to highlight the divide between science, faith and the arts within academia by placing religious texts and devotional music inside and around the buildings and locations relating to the scientific disciplines. The piece ‘There is a Green Hill Far Away’, was recorded inside one of the many labs in the Fenner Building. Not only was this a fantastic experience, but it also gave us a fresh perspective of what we wanted from our project as well as the concept of what it means to be singing religious texts in unconventional places. As you listen to these pieces, take a minute to observe the buildings around you and reflect upon what this conflict of faith and science means to you.
