In All Times and All Places

Recorded in the university chapel, we took Psalm 17 from the dynamic space and made it into something new- an echo of religion.

I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

The weaving stairs and passageways above the lobby of the Ferens building is one of the locations we recorded Psalm 93. We had the Lorem Quartet spaced out on each level to take advantage of this unique space. As you listen to this piece, we encourage you to walk up each level to experience the space as we did.

The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty. Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.

Take a seat and enjoy the gorgeous hums of Psalm 17 combine with the joyous echos of Psalm 33.

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

The pieces used for this track are both passions and expressions of different kinds of love. This piece was made to reflect the amalgamation that love can be, and to contrast, the organised mess that science can be at times.

There is a green hill far away, without a city wall, where the dear Lord was crucified, who died to save us all. We may not know, we cannot tell, what pains he had to bear; but we believe it was for us he hung and suffered there. He died that we might be forgiv'n, he died to make us good, that we might go at last to heav'n, saved by his precious blood. There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin; he only could unlock the gate of heav'n, and let us in. O dearly, dearly has he loved, and we must love him too, and trust in his redeeming blood, and try his works to do.

Come kiss me with those lips of Thine, for, better are Thy loves than wine. And, as the poured ointments be, such is the savour of Thy Name: and, for the sweetness of the same, the Virgins are in love with Thee. Begin but Thou to draw me on, and then I after Thee will run: oh King, Thy chambers bring me to; so, I in Thee delight shall find, and more than wine Thy love will mind and love Thee, as the righteous do.
